Home Repair Program

This program provides home repairs for low-income elderly individuals who cannot perform or afford the needed work themselves. Eligible persons must be age 60 or older and meet income guidelines. This service is provided through a contract with the First Ward Action Council. Labor is free, but materials must be purchased by the client or another funding source. Services are provided mainly to homeowners, but in some circumstances, renters are served as well.

Costs

  • Seniors with household incomes equal to or less than 50 percent of the area's median income for similar sized household receive free labor.
  • Household with incomes 51 to 80 percent are charged an affordable hourly fee.
  • The senior is responsible for the cost of all materials needed to make the repair.

Types of Repairs
The Home Repair Program focuses on the safety and energy efficiency of your home. Home Repair staff will help you determine what repairs are needed, as well as your eligibility for this and other services. There is no charge for the repair assessment.

Services performed through the Home Repair Program include:

  • Restoring porches and stairs
  • Fixing leaky faucets
  • Putting in safety devices
  • Building wheelchair ramps
  • Installing locks
  • Fixing and setting up railings
  • Assisting with minor weatherization
  • Helping with numerous other jobs
